Incontinence

You Don’t Have To Suffer

Urinary incontinence is a condition that affects millions of men and women. The good news is that at least 80% of those affected can be cured or improved with treatment.

Until recently there were only surgical and pharmaceutical solutions for this disorder. Depending on your diagnosis, Empi offers a line of electrotherapy devices that provide a low-risk, drug-free treatment you can do in the privacy of your own home before you try other more invasive procedures.

Urinary Incontinence Types
Urinary incontinence is an inconvenience that disrupts your life. In general, it refers to an undesired, uncontrollable urination. There are four classifications that distinguish between the type, amount, and its cause:

  • Stress Incontinence — where physical exertion or long periods of activity results in urine loss.
  • Urge Incontinence — a constant urge to urinate followed by uncontrollable bladder contraction with urine loss.
  • Reflex Incontinence —usually due to neurological disorder, e.g. paralysis or multiple sclerosis, results in erroneous nerve signals in the bladder and sphincter muscle
  • Overflow Incontinence — uncontrollable urination where each drop of urine that flows from the kidneys into the bladder causes it to overflow.

Non-Invasive, Drug-Free Therapy
Empi electrotherapy can be an important part of a urinary incontinence rehab program. We offer help for this uncomfortable and inconvenient disorder — Empi's device incorporates both Pelvic Floor Stimulation (PFS) and Electromyography (EMG). The Minnova® device treats urge and stress incontinence with PFS delivery.

Minnova® Pelvic Floor Stimulation (PFS) Device
Doctors often prescribe pelvic muscle strengthening exercises, called Kegels, to improve bladder control and to treat both stress and urge Incontinence. The Minnova Pelvic automates the process of doing Kegel exercises and helps you to perform them correctly. PFS can also inhibit inappropriate bladder contractions that are characteristic of urge incontinence.
